About CRP Initiative

The role of UVRI-CRP Initiative limited  is to conduct HIV prevention trials, basic sciences and epidemiological research in HIV, TB, Malaria and other related diseases and to support IAVI-sponsored activities in Uganda

The program’s focus is to identify opportunities and priorities for research towards finding vaccines for r HIV and associated diseases and support through among other areas conducting clinical trials in fulfillment of the government of Uganda and IAVI’s partnership responsibilities within the fight against HIV.

About The Program

The UVRI-CRP initiative limited is a program limited by guarantee, located within the Uganda Virus Research Institute located in Entebbe Town on plots 51-59 Nakiwogo road, Entebbe, within the Uganda Virus research Institute (UVRI) campus.

The UVRI-CRP Initiative limited (UVRI-CRP) was formed in 2001 as a result of the partnership between the International AIDS Vaccine Initiative (IAVI) and the Government of Uganda.  The spirit of the partnership was to support IAVI-sponsored activities in Uganda including the conduct of phase I/II HIV vaccine trials and to conduct feasibility studies and other activities in preparation for future large scale HIV vaccine trials. The program works with its partners to support the efforts in responding to the HIV/AIDS epidemic, its transmission and impact worldwide. The UVRI- IAVI HIV vaccine program operates with strategic partnership with the UVRI which is the Government of Uganda’s virus research agency.
